How is the New Year treating you?  Are you finding time for yourself?  Time for family?  Time for friends?  I hope so!

The simply important things in life – you, family, friends – are what support us when the stress of the world, our finances and our lives take over.  Stress management comes in all forms.  You can meditate, take a yoga class, play with your kids, dance with friends, hug your spouse.  Anything that brings you happiness and a sense of calm, even for only a few minutes a day can be considered ‘stress management’.  Each day should bring you something that cheers you, something that makes you laugh and something that relaxes you.

I hope one of your New Year Resolutions was to spend more quality time with the most important people in your life, including yourself.  If not, it’s never too late to add it to the list.

Have a Happy and Healthy Year!

Exercise of the Month

Here’s a great exercise to strengthen your core. It’s not as easy as it looks so focus on breathing regularly, keeping a straight body and maintaining stability. If you’d like to make it more challenging, try lifting one leg a few inches off the floor while maintaining proper position, then switch legs.

Exercise : Modified Plank

Exercise Group : Abs/Core Balance & Flexibility
Equipment : Mat

modified plankLie on a mat, face down, with your feet together, toes on the floor and your forearms tucked above your chest touching the floor. Begin by lifting yourself so that your body is supported by your toes and your forearms. Keep your body as straight as possible, without letting your hips or knees drop. Hold this position for as long as possible for 3 repetitions.
